When
I Grow Up
Explore career possibilities of the 21st century this month. Host a pack career fair, inviting several adults to share what they do for a living and how these career opportunities might change as you grow up and technology advances. Discover how having a positive attitude is essential in reaching career goals. Den meeting plans could include field trips to learn about different occupations of interest to the boys and playing games centered on different jobs. This would be a good month to work on any of the Cub Scout Academics and Sports belt loops and pins - let the boys vote on the one that fits best with what they want to be when they grow up. For those future astronauts this month is a perfect time for a space derby!

News from the Dens
Den
2 -In
March, Den 2 had a den meeting where we practiced our Pledge of
Allegiance, Scout Promise and Law of the Pack. We had a terrific
time examining specimens under a microsope; it was so popular
that we plan to bring it in again in the future. The scouts also
made a catapult and learned to make a knot. Our monthly go-see-it
was to the Jackson Bottom Wetlands area where learned a ton about
the wildlife in the preserve and also went on a long hike. The
Den also participated in Goodwill Good turn, cheered the Blazers
on to victory against the TimberWolves, had had a blast at the
swim party.
Den
3 -
They worked! The Bears launched their rockets outside of Cedar
Mill Elementary. While they all went up, they didn't all come
down. So if you see a few rockets on the roof of the kindergarten
building, you'll know why. The boys also worked on an art project
and will be visiting the Portland Art Museum at the end of the
month.
Won't be sending a Hooked on Fishing announcement... details are
not yet firm !
Den
4 - Having earned all their achievements for their tiger badge, our Bonny Slope tigers are now up for anything and everything from now until June. So we took a field trip to SCRAP (school & community reuse action project) over on the northeast side and made some interesting concoctions out of trash. Hopefully this allowed them to see a different angle to recycling. We also did a makeup field trip to the satellite police station on Murray after being canceled twice since November. The kids got to see those "interesting" back rooms where they house the criminals as well chatting with 2 policeman. Some especially enjoyed hanging out in their patrol car at visit's end. And just for the record, I inadvertently failed to report our wonderful trip to KATU TV station in February. (Call it early senility on my part). We had so much fun! A belated thank you very much to scoutmaster Shellie.
Den
1 & Den 8 -In February the Webelos from Den 1 and
Den 8 had a very fun family pizza party and went on a rainy hike
at the Tualatin Hills Nature Center. The Webelos collected many
bags for Goodwill/Good Turn, and later this month the Webelos
will be playing flag football with their Dads. We are almost finished
with our Webelos badge requirements. AND
Congratulations
to Bobby as he leaves Pack 207 this evening and joins Boy Scout
Troop 618. We are so proud of you, Bobby!!
Den
9 - The Wolves had a great time playing in the snow tunnels at Nanitch Lodge, as well as doing a little tubing there. In our meetings, we learned about the food pyramid and did some menu planning, and built a birdhouse using wood, nails, and screws. We also glued and hammered together race tracks at Home Depot before collecting bags for Goodwill Good Turn. It was a lot of fun!

April’s
Theme is Jurassic Park!
Explore the land before time! Imagine living in a time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. What have paleontologists learned about the great beasts that roamed the Earth millions of years ago? Did any dinosaurs live where you do now? Find out what they ate, where they lived, and how they moved. What could we learn of these creatures that lived so long ago? Make a model of a dinosaur or visit a museum where dinosaur fossils can be seen. Make your own "dinosaur footprints" or "fossils" in plaster. Take a "dinosaur" scavenger hike by going on a hike and looking for things that might have been found during the Jurassic era. This would be a great time to work on the Geology belt loop and pin.
